Owen and Irene Bailey purchased land in the middle of the Gregory River rainforest 18 years ago and meticulously hand-built their property.
“Owen is a professional woods craftsman and built this home from the ground up. Every tree that was taken down to make room for the home was used in the building of the home - it gives new meaning to the word treehouse,” Michael Barr, selling agent of Ray White Whitsunday said.
The Whitsunday residence, at 34 Gleneva Drive Gregory River, was named The Gulch by Owen and Irene because of the natural watercourse that runs between the main house and the property’s pool.
“Owen and Irene built a suspension bridge over the watercourse to link the residence with the pool area,” Mr Barr explains. “The pool area is perfect for entertaining with an undercover dining area and outdoor kitchen.”
The property respects the rainforest and its wildlife and complements the surrounding natural environment.
“Owen kept the natural form of the timber where possible. Every benchtop, architrave and handrail has been hand polished and formed to reflect the natural beauty of the surrounding forest,” Mr Barr said.
Sitting on five acres of land, the property featuring two bedrooms, two bathrooms and parking for two cars.
“This home is private and peaceful; you’re surrounded by rainforest and wildlife with plenty of outdoor living space.”
“Nothing like this home has sold in the area before - it’s truly one of a kind and an opportunity to secure your own slice of Whitsundays nature.
The property will go to auction on 29 September 2014. Mr Barr says market feedback throughout the marketing campaign will determine the value of the home.
“I’ve never seen - or sold - anything like this property. There’s nothing like it in the area and to be honest, I have no idea what it’s worth. We’ll listen to what the market tells us to help place a value on the home,” Mr Barr concludes.
