A comprehensive survey from Jones Lang LaSalle has ranked Australia third, just behind the United States and the United Kingdom, as having the most transparent real estate system.
Essentially, Australia got top marks in its methods for providing potential investors with detailed information on prospective property purchases.
The Real Estate Sustainability Transparency Index ranks 28 world markets and measures 83 factors critical to transacting, owning and operating in global markets.
Jones Lang LaSalle Australia director of sustainability Joel Quital spoke of the excellent reporting requirements exhibited by the three leading countries.
"I am not surprised with Australia's placement at the top of the global rankings," he said.
"Our market is a world leader in this regard. Australia has been the test bed for new environmental laws, regulations and incentives and there are a number of industry organisations that have taken the lead on this issue who have contributed greatly to Australia's top three ranking."
Since the global financial crisis began in 2008, there has been a 90 per cent improvement in transparency measures relating to real estate.
