Gardening enthusiast, horticulturalist and sustainability expert Adam Woodhams and wife Denise are selling their little piece of garden heaven in Turramurra with a price guide over $1.5million - to make a move to the beautiful Noosa hinterland in the sunshine state.
Adam, who is an Editor with Handyman Magazine and has appeared on gardening TV shows, says the property is the ultimate ‘location’ - with several projects around the garden featured on Better Homes and Gardens with Jason Hodges, as well as many more projects around the property featured almost every month in Handyman magazine.
A multimedia guru himself, Adam films most of his projects and creates videos for his YouTube channel which has recently passed one million views.
Adam’s projects, photography and writing have appeared in magazines such as Burke’s Backyard, Better Homes & Gardens, Your Garden and more. For five years he was the garden host on the Better Homes and Gardens radio show, as well as presenting on the Garden Gurus TV show. He currently hosts a weekly garden lifestyle and sustainability show on Brisbane’s 4BC with Clare Blake.
1 May Street, Turramurra is on the corner of two quite cul-de-sacs and sits on a huge 1,425sqm block with vast 28m and 50m street frontages. It is the last remaining un-redeveloped corner block of the type in the area, according to Adam.
The present home is very comfortable while at the same time the block has immense potential for a luxury single-dwelling development or, said Adam, any future zoning changes could see DA approval for more expansive development if the right proposal is put forward.
For Adam, the garden and all the projects have been an immense learning experience.
"I’m a horticulturist with a landscape background but I'm certainly not a builder so often I end up having my boundaries well and truly pushed when developing stories,” he said.
“For example, with our barbecue, I have never laid blocks before and I had to learn how to lay concrete blocks, render and tile. It's pretty cool because I’m someone who is discovering a DIY project for myself, recording it on camera, then walking people through the project step-by-step in the magazine and online. It keeps it very real, very doable."
Every project in the backyard tells a story, including those created by his daughter Amber - and he likes to emphasis that the garden has been created as a space for living in, for playing, for relaxing, for enjoying. It’s not a garden to be a slave to. This is because Adam has integrated sustainable, and therefore low-maintenance, ideas throughout.
Although sad to leave the place they called home for almost six years Adam said the size of the block offers a huge opportunity to the future owner.
“Even though the property is impressive and comfortable as it is, it would offer the potential buyer the perfect opportunity to build their dream home or, sometime in the future with Council or State approval, potentially subdivide the land and build two adjoining properties,” he said.
Adam, Denise and daughter Amber are moving to Doonan in Queensland where they are keen to set roots on an acreage and build their multimedia and sustainable gardening business.
Denise, who is a TAFE teacher, is looking forward to offering her own skills to the mix, with a property that offers space for workshops and tutorials on sustainable gardens as well as garden show talks. The pair are keen to educate people on being sustainable without compromising their lifestyle. And Adam intends to finally write the book he’s been planning to write for years.
1 May Street Turramurra will go to auction onsite on Saturday 31 October at 4pm.
