One of the first homes to be built in the Lake Alexandria area in the 1800s has come to market with Ray White Mittagong for only the fifth time it’s its 127 year history with Ray White Mittagong.

The property at 34 Edward Street Mittagong has a price guide of $850,000 plus, is located in a heritage aware pocket of Mittagong. The barn on the property housed horses during World War II, while the 140 year old timber that was the old barn is now the base of the garden beds on the property.

Current owners, Heidi and Kurt FEGEBANK have owned the property for just over seven years, and are only the fourth owners the home has seen in its time.

Heidi, who studied architecture and husband Kurt went on a two year project to renovate the entire home and barn, keeping with the theme of old, whilst modernising the interior.

“We tried to keep the old feel of the house, but make it a modern farm house and make it more family friendly. We opened it up and extended the deck, added big doors and windows for a modern way of living,” said Heidi.

According to Heidi, the iron used throughout the house comes from the old local iron mill which closed in 1890, with the fittings throughout the home remaining original and from the local area.

“It’s been modernised but everything remains original, the stained glass, the iron fittings, everything is from the 1880s, It’s beautiful.”

Heidi admits it will be very hard to say goodbye to the house they have called home for the last seven years, but the couple and their young family are now looking for their next renovation project.

“It’s such a unique property, we’ll never get another one like this in our lifetime, I’m sure,” said Heidi.

According to Heidi, the home would be perfect for lovers of history.

“I think it would be good for a family or a retired couple maybe moving down from Sydney. Or someone who loves history and loves an old house, it’s wonderful house for young kids.”

She said the next owners will enjoy the wrap around verandahs which encase the whole house, and the beautiful backyard

“It is the most beautiful house. Especially on beautiful Spring days, I open all the doors and the verandah facing onto Mount Alexander is really special,” she said.

“I don’t think I’ll ever get to live in a house like this again, you don’t come across them very often.”

The property is on the market with Ray White Mittagong. For further enquiries contact Principal Rick Mooney.
