The City of Holdfast Bay’s Development Assessment Panel has given the tick of approval to a concept which would see leading accommodation provided to the intellectually disabled in Adelaide.

A plan by disability services provider Minda would see a $200 million facility built in the city's west coast suburbs.

And the company's chief executive, Cathy Miller, said in addition to living options, it will provide lifestyle and work choices so that those who are afflicted by a disability can live a rich life.

She commented: "Significant effort has gone into our community consultation efforts and we have updated our plans to reflect the feedback we have received and still offer accommodation and facilities that will set the benchmark and support people with a disability well into the future."

Ms Miller said that this will be the largest disability real estate development of its type in South Australia with the additional aim of being environmentally friendly in its construction.

Such initiatives will see a wetland nurtured, with the aim of attracting wildlife and making sure stormwater is not wasted.

The facility itself will feature a community garden, coastal nursery, amphitheatre, pedestrian pathways and integration with the Coast Park.

Ms Miller concluded by saying that the green light by the assessment panel will be welcome news to those who are living in the Brighton facility, which is well past its use by date.
