Vocus Communications CEO James Spenceley is putting his 33 acre Megalong Valley home ‘Hazelnut Grove’ on the market with Ray White Blackheath selling agent Peter Torok.

At 38 years old, the tech entrepreneur is one of the youngest people in Australia’s history to run a company worth more than $1billion.

Originally a hazelnut farm, which supplied hazelnuts to boutique chocolate store ‘Josophan’s Fine Chocolates’, the property is now used as a weekend retreat.

The 5 bedroom property was designed by award winning architect Mitch Lichtman, and has featured prominently in the media, including popular television series ‘The Bachelor’ and featured in the iconic ‘Vogue’ magazine in 1998 shortly after its completion.

Mr. Spenceley said one of the many things which made the property special was the constant changing landscape and the feeling that you are a million miles away from the city, even though it is only two hours away.

“You can watch the weather change by the minute,” he said. “When you’re looking out the window, it becomes a painting rather than a window.”

Mr. Spenceley purchased the property in 2010 for $1.85million, setting a record at the time for the Megalong Valley.

Selling agent Peter Torok hopes to set another record this time around, after the home undertook a recent makeover.

“It is a truly exceptional home, one of the best, if not the best home I have had the pleasure to market in my 17 years working in real estate,” Peter said.

Mr. Spenceley said work and travel commitments have prevented him from using the property as much as he would like to, and made the decision to put the property on the market.

He hopes to see the home go to a family who will enjoy it as much as he and his family have.

“It is a cracking home, we would love to see it go to someone who will love and appreciate it as much as we, and the owners before us have,” he said.

“It is a real tradition. Both our family and the owners before us have fantastic moments and experiences here. It’s a great place to bring the extended family together and feel like you are a million miles away from the city.”

The property will go to auction on Sunday 28th June 12pm at Blackheath Golf Club.
