Owners of residential real estate in the ever-expanding west of Melbourne will be able to more easily commute with the opening of the Williams Landing railway station in April.

Residents of Point Cook, Williams Landing and Truganina can benefit from the station, which will cater to the Werribee Line.

The $26 million upgrade also includes a station car park, in addition to a new bus interchange and a new underpass near the Warragul Station.

Public transport minister Terry Mulder explained that the investment is a significant one, with 200 more car spaces providing convenience to those who will utilise the station.

He said: "The new underpass, to be built east of the station, will help ease traffic congestion in the busy shopping precinct of Warragul and will help create better road links between the north and south of Warragul.

"I am glad to see this project taking this very important step, which will be a great boost for commuters and the Warragul community."

Mr Mulder added that the station development is all part of the agenda to see public transport built through Melbourne's suburbs of growth.

With Wyndham being one of the fastest-growing areas in the country, the new rail station will provide more options to many Point Cook residents.
