David Koch is a household name primarily due to role as co-host of Australia’s highest ranking breakfast show, Sunrise.

Sunrise however is only part of David Koch’s day job and his streaming service Ausbiz is Australia’s leading provider of live and on demand video of the latest in Australian business, markets, economy and start ups.

He also turned around the Port Adelaide Football Club making it profitable within three years. He’s been the chairman of the club for 10 years.

Ray White Chief Economist Nerida Consibee said one of the most impressive things about Kochie was his ability to be relevant to both mum and dad’s watching Sunrise, as well as people in the business world.

Mr Koch said markets run on psychology.

“You can have all the data like in the world, but technically property prices are going down now so people don't feel as rich as they did. But we don't need the Reserve Bank to call the economy at the moment as the media is doing a sensational job with headlines like the one I saw the other day about ‘mortgage prisoners’.

“I'm a glass half full person, which I think if you own your own business, you've got to be a glass half full person. The only reason that interest rates are going up was because the economy's going so well and strong.

“The average Australian household has never been richer ever in the history of this country.
History tells us Kevin Rudd did exactly the right thing during the GFC and kept the economy going despite everyone whinging and paying everyone $900, even though some people were dead. Who cares? It was pumping.

“We've just been through the biggest threat to the economy since the Spanish flu 110 years ago. We've sailed through that pretty well. Yes, it's cost us some money. But the government's big investment in its biggest asset that's us as taxpayers to keep us in a job to pay tax. So you know, both last election I really didn't care too much. Who won because most of them are pretty good.

“I think we’ll avoid a major recession. No country has ever gone into recession with full employment.”

Mr Koch gave the best tip to the agents if they were struggling to talk to people was to get them to talk about their family. “Unless you are interested in people and curious about people, you can’t do this job or your job.”

“Be yourself and be curious about people. Don’t pretend to be something you are not as you’ll get found out. TV especially finds you out. You’ll always be found out in real estate too.”
