When Trent Godfrey moved to Adelaide from New Zealand 12 months ago, he’d never called an auction. Today, he’s not only an active auctioneer, he’s South Australia’s 2014 rising star.
Winning the Society of Auctioneers and Appraisers News Australia SA Golden Gavel 2014 Rising Star award, Trent says it marks a turning point in his career.
“I came to Adelaide 12 months ago as a sales agent and faced the enormous challenge of settling into a real estate market where I had no profile or credibility as an agent.
“It was like starting my career all over again and to be honest, it was really tough. I got to a point in early March, where I felt I was at breaking point,” Trent explains.
Around this time Ray White South Australia’s Jason O'Halloran introduced Trent to principal of Ray White Brighton, Scott Robinson, and Trent made the decision to join the Brighton team.
“It was a big decision to make the move after spending a year trying to establish myself in the Adelaide market, but it turned out to be the best decision I ever made.
“I knew the next step in my Real Estate career just had to be auction after I appeared on MasterChef in New Zealand last year. This was the time I realised I love performance.
“I entered into the 2014 Golden Gavel competition and it turned out I was quite good at auctioneering!” Trent said.
Since winning the rising star award in May, Trent says his business is steadily growing.
“This is such an important part of building my real estate career here in South Australia.
“I’m proud to say I’m now a sales agent and auctioneer. I called my first auction on 17 May and have another two on this weekend.
For Trent, his ambition is clear: to be the best in the business.
“Everything fell into place when I joined Ray White but there’s still a lot of work to do. The job now is to get to know my community, let them know I’m here and that I can get them the results they are looking for. Thank you for adopting me South Australia, I love being ‘yellow’!”
