The Housing Industry of Australia (HIA) has reported that South Australia has seen a modest increase for new home sales by private citizens in the month of September.

These positive results come before the state government was due to increase its grants and assistance to new home buyers to boost the real estate industry.

The New Home Sales report by the HIA shows a 2.8 per cent rise in September of this year, which is in contrast with a downturn of 3.5 per cent on a national level.

HIA executive director for South Australia Robert Harding said that it is too early to be celebrating, but these figures are a sign that the state is continuing its slow but promising upward trend.

"This reality notwithstanding, the recent state government initiatives have coincided with another reduction in interest rates down to levels that are historically low.

"So the policy settings are finally more conducive to a turnaround in what has been a consistent deterioration in the SA's new home building sector," said Mr Harding.

Between March and May of this year, the new home sales in South Australia saw a large fall before making positive ground between the fifth month of the year and July..
