Many people think of Sydney as a fairly expensive place, but Menai in the south of Sydney is a suburb where the median house price is not nearly as dear as what you would expect for the Emerald City.
With a median house price of $645,000, according to Domain, and a population of more modern homes due to being newly established as a suburb in the last 30 years - this suburb is a perfect place for investment.
Menai is an appealing suburb which is well furnished by public transport. Suburbs surrounding Menai have access to a litany of train networks and buses travel through the suburb on a regular basis. The distance to the CBD is a positive for residents who enjoy the seclusion and removal from the hustle and bustle. This is offset by the fact that public transport provides access to the city very easily.
The area is also home to a number of large shopping centres including Menai Metro and Menai Marketplace. Inside Menai Metro, residents and visitors will find a Woolworths, Big W as well as a host of other specialty stores which cater to shoppers of all ages, needs and interests.
In a survey by Ninemsn Finance about the suburb, Menai residents largely gave the area a thumbs up, saying that not only are the facilities top notch, the draw of this community is that it is not too far from the beach, CBD, airport or the south coast. One respondent said the following:
"Big houses, big gardens, birds singing, great place to raise a family. Our neighbours are great. Nice friendly atmosphere."
Menai has a number of schools in the suburb itself - most of them religious. There is the Menai Primary School (k-6), the Catholic Aquinas College (7-12) and Holy Family Primary School (k-6).
If you are thinking about investing in real estate in Menai then consider how you can also serve your country through defence housing. By leasing out your investment property to the Australian Defence Force then you are providing accommodation for a member of the ADF and their families. You have the benefit of long term lease with reliable rent as well as restoration provisions at the end of the agreement.
