Standalone properties in NSW are experiencing some if their highest approval numbers since 2005, according to April 5 figures published by the Housing Industry Association (HIA).
The latest data from the HIA, as compiled by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, shows that during the month of February 2013, a total of 1,601 applications for detached homes were approved - which the HIA's NSW executive director David Bare says is among the top monthly results for the state in nearly eight years.
He noted that an overall trend in positive approval numbers over the last six months shows that recovery could be well and truly here to stay in Australia's most populous state.
Bare said: "Housing construction is a key priority in driving a healthy NSW economy. A continued focus on housing delivery by the state government must be maintained for the momentum to be sustained in the medium to long term."
The news will be heartening for many NSW buyers - and could signal that many are feeling more confident about jumping on the property ladder in the wake of the GFC.
New builds could also ease some of the pressure on the tight rental market - particularly in Sydney, where the number of rentals has been tight.
