After being priced out of the Sutherland Shire property market all of her working life, 33 year-old Kate George has now managed to purchase a home closer to her family and in the region she grew up.
The high school teacher has bought a one-bedroom-plus-study, ground floor apartment in a new Sutherland Shire development for $650,000 off-the-plan and is currently selling her apartment in Padstow to fund the purchase
“I love the Shire. I grew up in the area and it has always been home. My mum has been wanting me to move back for years but I couldn’t afford it,” Ms George said.
Now after working hard and paying off her Padstow mortgage, she has enough equity that she can make the dream move to the new complex, aptly named ‘Sapphire’.
“Being a unit on the ground floor with a beautiful courtyard area, it was a winner for me,” she said, adding that the pet-friendly block means she can now live with her dog who has been staying with her mum.
Construction started on her new home in April which is one of 24 apartments being developed by boutique specialists, Dynamic Projects.
“I was so excited to see they have started building. They should be finished by mid next year. As soon as it’s done I will move straight in. I can’t wait,” she said.
Ms George said the central location of the development and the smaller number of open-plan apartments clinched the sale for her.
“Many new developments are massive these days. It’s a bit overwhelming being surrounded by hundreds of units, you kind of get lost,” she said.
“And it’s minutes from the cafes and so close to the shopping centre and the train station.”
She also praised the marketing agency that handled the sale, Ray White Projects.
“They obviously knew what they were talking about. We actually went and had a look at the display suite in the Sutherland Eton arcade that the developer had specifically built for these units.”
Ray White Projects director Eddie Mansour said with Sutherland experiencing annual capital gains averaging 12.1 per cent each year over the last three years, the development has proven popular, with 40 per cent already sold.
“The majority of apartments are north facing and there is a landscaped communal BBQ area. It’s an ideal complex for first home buyers and investors looking for a unique one-bedroom-plus-study with large windows.”
Apartments are still available to purchase at Sapphire Sutherland with 1 bedroom + study starting from $575,000 and 2 bedrooms starting from $765,000.
