A landmark Queenslander that was built in 1905 has hit the market.

The Yeronga property, named “Hillcrest” originally spanned 11.6 acres before the land was divided into seventeen sections and sold.

Marketing agent, Cameron Crouch, of Ray White Sherwood says the property has withstood the test of time.

“The original Hillcrest property was bought by James Toohey in 1862 and was used to sell cattle on his way to South Brisbane. Over the following 22 years the land was divided into seventeen sections and sold off, with the portion at the top of the hill being sold to John and Isabella Kenyon in 1901 who built “Hillcrest” in 1905 to be their home.

“The property has been home to only three families prior to the current owners,” Cameron said.

The property was renovated in 2004 and converted from a single level home to incorporate a second, downstairs level.

“The home was restored to match the elegance of the original dwelling from a bygone era.

“The residence embraces traditional features such as classic wide verandahs, matching stain glass windows on the upper and lower levels, original ornate archways and brass light fittings,” Cameron explains.

The original upstairs level features 14 foot ceilings and traditional picture rails, and has a large formal living and sitting room featuring an Olivine marble fireplace. This level includes two spacious ensuited bedrooms.

“All cabinetry throughout the home has been custom designed to fit the classic style of a traditional Queenslander and is made from beautiful Tasmania Rosewood,” Cameron said.

Downstairs comprises an additional three large bedrooms and nine foot ceilings.

“This lower level also includes a Billiard room for entertaining, as well as a sauna and a temperature controlled cellar.”

Sitting on 1,201m² of land, the landscaped yard is private and features a swimming pool.

Hillcrest, 81 Park Road Yeronga, goes to auction on 23 February 2015 at 6pm.
