The Housing Institute of Australia has welcomed the recently-opened Gold Coast City Council Kickstart Construction campaign where there is a 100 per cent discount on infrastructure charges.
The HIA executive director of the Gold Coast & Northern Rivers Col Buttenshaw said this campaign will help to boost construction and aid first home buyers with affordability.
"(The campaign) is welcome news for the housing industry and sends the right message around Australia that the Gold Coast is open for business," he said.
This scheme extends beyond construction with available and disused commercial real estate buildings available for new usage by new retailers with the absence of extra fees involved when a business changes hands.
Gold Coast mayor Tom Tate says that this package is a must to get the region back on track.
It's about creating jobs and encouraging development activity, with ongoing benefits for families and not-for-profit community groups," he said.
The council is confident that this Kickstart campaign will create up to 4,000 jobs over the next four years and will be brought into effect on October 1.
The infrastructure industry has had a number of difficulties in the last year due to an economic downturn and the general rise in the cost of living.
