Green energy fans will rejoice with the news that more Australians are showing an interest in environmentally friendly products in the housing sector.

The Johnson Controls Energy Efficiency Indicator (EEI) survey has revealed an increased awareness of resource management and energy efficiency amongst industry executives.

79 per cent of the respondents said energy saving was important to their organisation, compared with 63 per cent last year.

In the last 12 months, the housing industry as a whole has started to implement various energy management strategies, such as improving lighting, water efficiency and making heating, ventilation and air conditioning improvements.

The motivating factor for most Australians to jump on the saving electricity bandwagon was to enhance their building's value.

The survey revealed that 80 per cent of respondents said they were sitting up and taking more notice of energy efficiency this year compared with the same time in 2011.

Lighting technologies have been earmarked as an area most people will set to improve in the next 12 months.

When it comes to saving energy and money, sometimes you need to spend some to save some in the long run.

Over 40 per cent of business owners are planning to increase the amount of money they are investing in energy efficiency in the next year, while 33 per cent say their monetary commitment will remain the same.
