For many renters, the most important thing about a home is its neighbourhood. In a world class city where there is always something going on, it is likely that rental seekers would like to find a place that is central to the action but quiet enough to relax.

In Melbourne, city planners are hoping to provide that exact balance to the new tenants of the Docklands precinct.

With the announcement of a $300 million community infrastructure project, minister of planning Matthew Guy expressed his dedication toward creating an area that workers, residents and visitors can fully enjoy.

"This plan showcases projects that Places Victoria and the City of Melbourne, together with developers, private and public sectors, are committed to delivering for Docklands," he said on July 15.

"We've listened to thousands of residents, workers, visitors and experts, to ensure future development in Docklands meets the needs of its people, now and into the future."

With targeted planning, the Docklands is fast becoming an attractive hub of activity. Commercial and residential developments worth more than $2.4 billion have taken place over the last year across 16 projects that include upwards of 1,500 dwellings.
