Auction wrap from around the grounds

MORE than 34,000 people from across Australia and New Zealand attended a Ray White auction last week, one of our biggest weeks ever for auction action.
Buyers from all over Australia descended on The Event, the eagerly anticipated Gold Coast auction event which is hosted each year by the Surfers Paradise Group, saw 1500 people attend their mega auction at Royal Pines Resort yesterday.
The atmosphere was said to be electric with 230 registered buyers engaging in frenzied bidding, racking up $19 million in property sales.
The clearance rate was almost 50 per cent by 4pm but it was expected to climb in the coming days as sales were finalised.
A total of 95 properties were offered to market as a few had sold before the auction.
Those ranged from prime waterfront homes to rural estates and apartments.
Ray White Surfers Paradise chief executive Andrew Bell said the same fundamentals that drove the property market ahead of the Commonwealth Games would continue to boost growth over the next few years. “The Gold Coast has crystallised its position as Australia’s sixth largest city through an economic transformation that has been a long time coming,” Mr Bell said. He said $20 billion of infrastructure spending in recent years had put the Gold Coast in its strongest economic position yet.
“All this development is not only making the Gold Coast stronger but it’s also providing significant employment opportunities now and for years to come,” he said. But it was further down on the Gold Coast that one of our leading agents, Ray White Mermaid Beach elite agent Troy Dowker sold 3 Wagawn St, Tugan for $2M under the hammer in front of a crowd of 30 people.
Mr Dowker ran a textbook auction campaign for his vendors who were selling their sweet beachside spot. He said the four bedroom property had 'never to be built out ocean views coupled with a prime location'.
And continuing further down the coastline to Yamba, in northern NSW, where Daniel Kelly sold 1 Church St for $1.81M in front of 200 people with a staggering 13 registered bidders.
"The auction on Sunday was a huge one. It's been the talk of the town for the past couple of days, which is always great," Mr Kelly said. "A couple from out west purchased the property and it will become their family holiday home as well, so the great family story continues."
This much loved family home in Yamba was on the market for the first time in almost 40 years. The home of Bill and May Molesworth at 1 Church St had been the holiday destination for their four siblings and 11 grandchildren for many years who would arrive from Ballarat, Glen Innes, Armidale, Brisbane and Sydney. Daughter Pip Cook of Armidale had said her childhood home was a happy one that had provided so many treasured memories of family occasions and wonderful relaxation that comes from a seaside holiday in beautiful Yamba.
Congratulations to all our auction agents this week.
