Growing up, Ms Straney shared a special bond with her grandfather, Robert (now 80).
He and her grandmother were constant figures in her life, helping raise Ms Straney and her sister while their parents worked.
When Ms Straney discovered his long-standing diagnosis, a wave of emotion hit her.
“I felt quite sad that he hadn't told me sooner, but I was also happy to know he is doing so well,” Ms Straney said.
“Once I found out, I knew I wanted to do something to help others facing the same fight. That’s when I decided on the shave.”
Having been with Ray White Goulburn for six months, Ms Straney has already rallied immense support from her workplace and local community.
She has raised more than $6,000 so far, pushing close to her $10,000 target.
“Raising money means being able to help individuals and families who are going through standard treatment and may not be able to afford the required care,” Ms Straney said.
“My grandfather inspired me to take part, and I want to make him proud while helping ensure no family has to navigate blood cancer alone.”
The public shave event will take place at the Ray White Goulburn Office on 23rd October, where colleagues, community members, and family will gather to cheer her on as she parts with her locks for the cause.
