Ms Young understands the struggle first-hand.
Diagnosed with severe depression and anxiety at age 15, and more recently with a form of OCD, she knows what it means to fight a silent battle.
Now, she is turning her personal journey into action by stepping up for Lifeline's Out Of The Shadows Walk to ensure no one in her community feels forgotten.
Living and working in a rural area like Mundubbera, Ms Young sees how geography complicates access to care.
“It is extremely crucial to raise awareness in a rural area,” Ms Young says.
“We don’t have everything at arm’s reach... access to a mental health doctor is by Telehealth, psychologist appointments are over the phone, and so are most counselling appointments.”
While praising the incredible local nurses and paramedics on the ground, she wants to remind regional residents that crisis support is always available 24/7 through services like Lifeline.
Her 27km challenge kicked off on 1 September with a humorous first leg alongside her two Dachshunds, Wilma and Walter.
While Walter ended up being carried most of the way, Ms Young successfully completed her first leg fully motivated for the road ahead.
With more than 3,000 Australians lost to suicide every year, every contribution makes a real impact - just $39 funds a life-saving phone or text connection for someone in distress.
Above all, Ms Young wants her community to hear one crucial message: “You aren’t alone. You matter; your life matters”.
