Ray White Rural held its annual awards night in the Gold Coast last week and local Yass and Canberra district agent George Southwell took out two major titles.

The 23-year-old is the company’s youngest agent to achieve the illusive Premier status, a category that places him in the top 7 per cent of agents in the 12,000-strong network across 11 countries.

He also took out the company’s Top Auction Agent award nationally, taking 30 properties for auction during the financial year.

“Although I sell property via private treaty as well, the main reason I am so passionate about auction is because of the end date it provides buyers and sellers and the unconditional nature of the sale. There is no nonsense or hidden agendas,” Mr Southwell explained.

Mr Southwell hit headlines recently with the first no-reserve auction of a home for charity in Canberra.

“This was not just another transaction. Selling Lionel’s home of fifty-plus years was one aspect, however being an unreserved auction with the proceeds of his estate going to Camp Quality really made it something special,” he said.

The agent says auctions can be really impactful, one is particular occurred near Murrumbateman. Aiglebrae at Nanima was marketed alongside another rural lifestyle property called Carramar in Sutton. Both sold under the hammer with a joint clearing sale held thereafter.

“Following the auction the owners of Aiglebrae, Rob and Anne Cockburn, packed up and moved to just out of Hamilton in New Zealand, buying a property through Ray White Hamilton. Rob was so impressed with the auction process that he changed career from bus driving and is now working with Ray White Hamilton.”

“Auction is one of the oldest methods of sale however in this day and age you have to remain front of the pack to keep up with the trends. I can think of no other way that I can look my clients in the eye and say that we have got them the best result in the most transparent way then via the auction method”.
