Redland Bay’s rodeo community was out in force on Saturday, 24 January 2015, with around 2000 spectators turning out for the third annual Grass Roots Bull Riding event.

Organised by Ray White Redland Bay principal, Jesse James, and supported by 40 local businesses and non-profit organisations, the day has gained national and international attention for Redland Bay while raising money for local youth organisation, The Cage.

A former professional bull rider, Jesse James rode for The Cage and raised more than $1000 for the charity.

For the first time, a team of professional American bull riders went head to head with Australian riders.

Jim Moon, USA Senior Bull Riding Director as well as Robert Mims and Ricky Phillips, the current joint senior world champion bull riders, all participated in the international challenge, which was won by two-time Australian champion bull rider, Dale Jones.

Not only a day of bull riding, there were plenty of activities for the family with fair rides, a charity cowboy auction, and a free rock concert at Redland Bay Hotel.

"We've had a flood of people calling to say it was a great day," Jesse said.

"We've also had a stream of messages from bull riders in the USA saying they're coming out for the event next year."

Jesse said the event had raised several thousand dollars for The Cage.
