When an architect designs his own home, you can be assured that what is on offer includes details that would normally be prohibitive for the average home owner.

The contempoary and sleek Yeronga home of architect Michael Kisluk of TVS Architects, at 24 Athol Street, Yeronga is just that.

Ray White agent Adam Edwards believes this kind unique design will draw in buyers keen to find a bespoke home.

“It is very different from other houses in the area,” says the Ray White Sherwood agent. “The street is lined with Queenslanders. The owner saw this block come up for sale a couple of years ago, and couldn’t resist the aspect.

“It was the first home I actually built for myself,” says the 30 year architectural veteran, Michael Kisluk, admitting that he did perhaps indulge himself.

“Absolutely! I guess I did that,” says Michael. “I put mirror behind the shadow line and kick line of the kitchen. You can’t even see it in the pictures but it’s there.”

He also indulged his daughter with a Hollywood-esque storage option.

“At the top of the stairs there are three 2.4m high shoe cupboards – my daughter has a lot of shoes,” adds Michael.

After years of working on homes with little storage, space, Michael went a little crazy with his own home.

“There’s actually more storage here than we can use.”

Who wouldn’t want to stay in a home with such striking features, created with a spare and graceful palette of waxed concrete, stone, steel and glass?

Taking full advantage of the high topical position the house opens out to a veranda lined in architectural plywood, matched to the custom designed garage door nestled below in the lush, tropical street frontage.

For an architect who has for many years dealt with the classic Queenslander era in homes, Michael’s foray into contemporary urban was a delight.

“I really love strong design,” he says as he discusses the black ceilings, and beautiful mosaic design in the bathroom that he says was “as dear as poison.”

“We searched for the most beautiful examples of specified finishes; the book-matched marble, the high gloss kitchen tile – we enjoy the contrast of natural concrete versus highly finished surfaces,” says Michael.

The result is a superb, highly detailed home of sustainable and unique design.
