The owner of this three-bedroom 1920’s semi in Drummoyne has described making patterns of the original ceilings, cornices and architraves to retain its Art Deco design during renovations.
Steve Flint is now selling the home which he has owned for over 20 years and said all work completed during its extension and multiple renovations was custom.
“The roof needed replacing and we wanted to keep the Art Deco feel so we had patterns made of the ceilings and installed matching replacements in the hallway and all three bedrooms.”
“We also had a pattern made of the skirting boards and architraves as we couldn’t buy that style anymore.”
Speaking of the extension to the rear of the property, Mr Flint said that he retained the 3.2-metre ceiling height into the open plan living and dining area which flows through full-length patio doors and onto the private backyard.
“There is a wonderful combination of old and new however it flows very nicely. It blends together beautifully and you have this fantastic sense of space,” he said, adding that the north facing backyard means winter sun streams through the house.
Mr Flint said the 2009 renovation saw the backyard completely overhauled with new fences, tiles, a wet bar, BBQ area and tall hedges for privacy.
“Nobody can see into the back yard. It is your own private sanctuary.”
The kitchen and bathroom were also replaced to match the property’s design.
“I have had it all custom built throughout: the stone kitchen, the wardrobes and the shed. It’s all tailored,” Mr Flint said.
Selling agent, Chris Wilkins from Ray White Drummoyne said the property is perfect for downsizers or young families who appreciate the property’s substance and style.
“Semis like this are hard to find in Drummoyne and with its fantastic renovation and open plan design you have a wonderful flow of space from the front through to the wet bar at the back, making it perfect for entertaining.”
Located close to waterfront parks on Five Dock Bay, good schools such as Drummoyne Public School and St Marks, and within walking distance to buses and ferries to the city, Mr Wilkins described the property as a private sanctuary in a great neighbourhood.
Other features include air conditioning, alarm, gas heating and CCTV security along with access to a large attic storage space.
When asked about the price guide, Mr Wilkins cited 39 Moore Street which recently sold for $1.458 million as the most recent sale of a semi in the street, despite it having only 2 bedrooms.
28 Moore Street Drummoyne is for sale by auction on Saturday 8 October.
