What began as a small renovation on this 1920s Queenslander in Clayfield quickly escalated into a stunning rebuild blending heritage styling and modern design.

When home owners Francisco and Rebecca Smout started the renovation project they planned to live in the home forever but the project quickly turned into a six-bedroom, three-bathroom mansion with double garage.

“We didn’t want to stop short of the property’s potential but now we’ve ended up with a place that is bigger than our needs. There’s just the two of us," said Mr Smout, a project director.

“We designed the side extension as a light well for the upper and lower levels,” Mr Smout said, speaking of the floor-to-ceiling side atrium which provides soaks up the northeast aspect.

While the property’s clean lines and open plan feels modern and spacious, original detailing remains including French doors, stained glass windows, picture rails and architraves along with soaring 3.2m ceilings upstairs.

Also upstairs, a huge 70sq m master suite includes a spacious walk-in robe and separate make-up room.

“Downstairs we have focused on a modern feel: extensive steel and commercial grade glazing to make it as open and airy as possible.”

“We have also maximised the use of the space and the northeast aspect.”

“We weren’t willing to compromise on the finish which is demonstrated in the attention to detail. We spent a lot on the fixtures, fittings and joinery.”

Selling agent, Damon Warat from Ray White Ascot described 122 Alexandra Road as a low maintenance property that would appeal to young professionals or families, with excellent private and public schools nearby.

“It’s a spectacular renovation and exceptionally presented,” Mr Warat said.

“Clayfield is family-oriented and one of Brisbane’s top three most desirable suburbs. There’s plenty of parks, cafes and it has some of the city’s oldest homes.”

“This property is surrounded by multi-million dollar houses in Alexandra Road which is a beautiful tree-lined street,” he said, adding that Oriel Park, local shops, buses, trains are all only metres away.

122 Alexandra Road, Clayfield will go to auction 20 May at 2pm on site.
