IF space is what you need that is still close to the city, then 25 Cecil St, Gordon ticks all the boxes.Ray White Wahroonga | Turramurra agent Anna Cavill said the large home called Glengowrie was full of class and versatility.“The original part of of Glengowrie was built in 1905 and encompasses the very best in style, design and location,” Ms Cavill said.
Owners Trenna Probert and her husband Craig Swanger, both ex Macquarie Bankers, now run their own investment and adviser business called Revolver Capital from home.Their business is focused on private company start-ups in the financial services, aged care, technology and entertainment industries. The couple and their four children aged 5 to 14, plus their two Groodles have had almost four years at Glengowrie.“We love the home for it’s convenience but it’s also wonderful to have such a large block of land at 1802sq m that is so close to everything still. And with a block of land as big as ours, and a large park at the back, we only have neighbours on two sides so it is very private.”The home is only 900 metres from Gordon train station and express trains to the city. Located in the Killara High School zone, Ravenswood School for Girls is a two minute walk.“We feel very close and connected to the city but we have a private sanctuary at home,” Mr Swanger said. The large block was still relatively low maintenance with many natives in the garden that grow so easily with such good soil.Ms Probert said the five bedroom house was like a “hidden treasure”.“It’s important to us to have so many living or escape areas for privacy or work spaces. We have had up to three people working here at home with us at any one time and all of them have their own offices,” she said.“When we were looking for a home, Gordon was not a suburb we had considered. Yet as soon as we stepped through the front gates, we knew we had uncovered a hidden treasure.“It quickly became our dream home but before we moved in we knew we would love the wrap around veranda.”Once the French doors at the front and side of the house are opened it creates a steady breeze flowing through and filled with light. And the front of the house - the original brickwork - is at least 5-8 degrees cooler without air-conditioning.The family have extensively redesigned the home in their time and improved the layout and upgraded all the fixtures and added a lot of value. They have also done a lot of work in the garden and improved the deck too.The family is moving closer to the waterfront in the Lower North Shore.
