This weekend a real estate agent will swap the thrill of auction day for the adrenalin of bull riding.
Jesse James of Ray White Redland Bay will put down the gavel and pull on a pair of chaps as he boards a 750 kilogram bucking bull as part of the second annual Grassroots Redland Bay day.
“I am excited, I'm nervous, pumped and I have no doubt that I will be sweating like I've just run 10km and that's before I get on,” Mr James said.
It’s all part of his family rodeo event on the Australia Day long weekend in the aim of bringing the community together and raising funds for a key local organisation.
“Eight seconds of my life could help save the circumstances of another by raising the funds to support The Cage Youth Foundation. I am trying to create awareness for the foundation and what they do for the less fortunate or challenged. We also now know that they need to raise $700,000 so that they can be self sufficient and standing by themselves by way of a property in the Redlands. What I am doing is just helping them reach their target and dreams so they can pay it forward.”
Jesse has five days left to raise the first $2000 to kick start the fundraising.
“Some of our local youth are having their lives put on the line everyday and not always by choice. It wouldn't hurt all of us to put something on the line once or twice in our lives so we know and appreciate what we have and what's some may never have.”
Jesse’s famous for wearing his ubiquitous real estate attire coupled with cowboy boots and hat. The journey to this weekend is being filmed as part of a documentary celebrating community spirit in the Redland Bay area.
He will be one of many bullriders on the day, albeit professionals, providing entertainment on the day.
Last year, despite the occurrence of Cyclone Oswald, some 40 local businesses and 2000 locals came together in Brisbane’s Redland Bay area to watch 60 cowboys compete in a bull riding competition.
