BRISBANE Lions legend and Brownlow Medalist Jason Akermanis will now be kicking goals of a different kind as the 43-year-old joins Ray White Ascot in the role of Sales Agent and Auctioneer.

Dubbed as ‘Aker’ throughout his career, he played 248 games for the Brisbane Lions, kicking 263 goals and winning the AFL Premiership three times. Now, Mr Akermanis has set his sights on making his ‘mark’ on the real estate industry.

“Having a professional purpose, the ability to be autonomous in your career, and being given the opportunity to master your craft are key fundamentals to success,” Mr Akermanis said.

“Thanks to my mum, I’ve always loved property. We weren’t very wealthy when I was growing up, but she taught me what was important when it came to real estate.

“I’d been away from Queensland for 14 years and I decided, once my youngest Zoe came along and with all things COVID-19, it was time to give up trying through Q School with golf and start a new career.

“Along with my wife Megan, and my other two daughters Charlotte and Sienna, we decided moving back to Brisbane would be best to be closer to lifelong friends and both our families.

“I wanted to start in a completely new industry, so I picked up the phone to an old friend of mine who has great knowledge of Ray White, to ask for his advice.

“I wanted a mentor, someone who could help me grow and potentially prosper in this industry, and I was fortunate that he put me in contact with one of the best in Dwight Ferguson at Ray White Ascot.

“Being a family man, Ray White really aligned with my values, especially with Dwight because he understands the need for outstanding client service combined with family time at home.

“Ray White was always going to be the right fit for me with the structure, organisation, and the in-house training the group offers to their agents.

“The training available is exceptional and the assets available are everything you could need to deliver the best service to customers.

“I’m excited to start this new path, to educate myself, and to grow as a sales agent. I’m looking forward to finding my place within the real estate industry, talking to people, getting to know them, and building relationships.

“What I do know from the very beginning is there are plenty of people wanting to buy and sell property in Brisbane – I relish the chance to be a part of the active property market.”

Ray White Ascot Director Dwight Ferguson welcomed Mr Akermanis to the family and said he was an exciting addition to the team.

“I’ve employed a lot of ex-athletes in the past and the vast majority of them have gone on to be a great success in the real estate industry,” Mr Ferguson said.

“I expect the same from Jason and I look forward to seeing him grow and progress along his new chosen career path.”
