For the first time ever this multi-award-winning, three-level home on North Stradbroke Island is on the market for $2.25 million, complete with sweeping 180-degree beach views.

Designed by renowned architect, John Hockings, the home has ocean views from every room and won three Queensland Master Builders awards in 2003 including ‘Individual Home of the Year - $750,000 to $1,000,000’, ‘Best Use of Timber’ and ‘Outstanding Achievement in Stone Masonry’.

Nestled on a 1013 square-metre battleaxe block on Point Lookout, above the surrounding beaches this is not your average house, according to the vendor, Ian Swinbourne.

“It was built by craftsmen. There were no shortcuts. The stonework alone took nearly two years,” he said.

“We used the island’s Cypress Pine in the build. It is oil-rich and the white ants won’t eat it. It lasts hundreds of years,” he said, adding that recycled bronze-coated bridge beams from Brisbane were also used throughout.

Privacy is also a core design element of the three-bedroom house, three bathroom house.

“You cannot see the property from the street, there are no neighbours looking in and you don’t look into anyone’s yard,” Mr Swinbourne said.

Speaking of the views, he described sweeping vistas stretching through to the Glasshouse Mountains and Moreton Island, from Amity Point to Cylinder Beach and beyond.

“We have been told by nearly everyone who knows the area that you won’t get better views,” he said.

“As you walk into the house, your surroundings change from cool green gardens, island stone and natural timbers to an endless vista of coastal views and fresh air. It takes your breath away.”

“It is paradise. We always say ‘don’t tell anyone about Point Lookout, it is Brisbane’s best kept secret,’” he said, describing an 80-minute journey to the CBD.

“On the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, there’s too many people. Here, we have no traffic. There is nobody around.”

Selling agent, Chris Ransley from Ray White North Stradbroke Island said that with a population of only 1800 people, the island is the ultimate getaway.

“It is a world away from reality but only about an hour from Brisbane and this property may well be the best on the Island.”

“There is nowhere else you can go that has such amazing beaches so close to the city and nobody around,” he said, adding that nearby Cylinder Beach has lifeguards 365 days a year and excellent surf.

“We have some of the best surf in Queensland and it’s very uncrowded. We don’t tell anyone,” he laughs.

Mr Swinbourne, who is downsizing, said that at $2.25 million, he believes the property is priced to sell quite quickly.
