Mimicking your plants natural climate and temperature is key to making sure it thrives.

The majority of popular indoor plants will thrive in temperatures between 20 to 26 degrees. Any higher than that and they may wilt any lower and they will fall victim to plant frostbite.

Humidity is also a big factor. All those fancy, on trends Instagram plants actually originate from the rainforests and jungles of Asia, India, South America and Africa where it is muggy as anything.

Some of your plants like peace lilies, fiddle figs, pothos and philodendrons won’t be too worried if the humidity dips a bit below 60 per cent.

But your calatheas, caladiums, marantas and alocasia varieties will throw a plant hissy fit. They will shrivel up and die if the needle of your Hygrometer (humidity meter) even approaches 60 per cent.

To boost humidity, it’s worth investing in a humidifier but if that’s too far for you (we all thought that in the beginning) then use a pebble tray under your plant. Fill it halfway with water so it’s not touching the roots and place your plant on top.

Keeping your plants together will also increase humidity as they form their own mini climate in your apartment - mine is currently nearing Amazon proportions. Otherwise, keep your humidity loving plants in the bathroom or a terrarium.

Misting is usually the go-to recommendation and while it’s not as effective as a humidifier, misting will keep your plant’s leaves clean - just make sure the leaves don’t rot.
