A 1930s art deco property with harbour views and approved DA plans to further enhance the residence, is on the market with a price expectation of $3.5 million.

“Capella” the property at 307 Sydney Road, Balgowlah is on the market through Ray White Balgowlah selling principal, Andrew White. He said it is a prized estate.

“The property was built on the orchard of the original Balgowlah Estate, “The Lookout” - a house that was built by mining baron, AS Knight in 1908.

“The Lookout was located at the top of North Harbour Reserve with magnificent harbour views, servants’ quarters and a coach house.. The dry stone walls that form the western boundary of the Capella property are the original walls of The Lookout’s orchard, which was split into nine lots after the crash of 1929,” Andrew explained.

Current owner, Trevor Easterbrook and his family moved to the relaxed harbour-side suburb of Balgowlah after a short stint in Mosman. The family had lived up and down the Northern Beaches for many years, but were drawn to the unique property of Capella.

“We love the beauty of the Northern Beaches but wanted to be close to the city and quality shops, transport and recreation,” said Trevor.

“We are very lucky that we stumbled across Capella. We immediately fell in love with the vast open spaces, the history of the house, and the quiet. The view out of the heads is breathtaking- we have enjoyed many a Boxing Day gathering watching the Sydney to Hobart yacht race from our back garden.”

Andrew added that the DA approval offers an attractive opportunity for buyers,

“Capella combines its original art deco character with contemporary living. The approved architectural plans will not only add to the elegance of the property, it will enhance the value,” Andrew said.

Trevor, who is a Director of fintech start-up Levitas Capital, is relocating his family to be closer to his youngest daughter’s school in Petersham for her senior years.

“Capella is a hidden gem. The charming art deco house offers enormous potential, and Balgowlah is great value for money. 1,300 square metres of land just doesn’t exist anymore, let alone surrounded by some of Sydney’s most beautiful beaches and parks.”

The three bedroom home is for sale by private treaty.
