WHY drive, when you can fly to 59 Haven Rd, Pullenvale?

Escape to the country but remain within 19kms of Brisbane’s CBD at this magnificent family estate owned by Fonebox founders Steven and Leanne Grives.

The telecommunications provider entrepreneurs purchased the 4.03ha property while searching for the ideal base to raise their four active children.

“The kids loved it as one was into horses, another into dirt bikes and they all loved football,” Ms Grives said.

“It’s a great place to raise a family. You really have that feeling of seclusion. It’s like living in the country but you’re so close to the city, especially after the Legacy Way tunnel was built. It’s just a lovely place to come home to after a day’s work in the city.”

Carved high into the peak of a rolling hill with direct views across lush bushland to Mount Barney is a retreat-like house fanning out across a sprawling acreage estate.

Ms Grives designed the home herself, employing the assistance of a builder and architect with experience in the sustainable building industry.

The family moved in when construction was completed in 2005.

“The house was originally designed as a sustainable home, designed to flow with the land rather than cut into it,” she said.

“You walk in and it fans out. I wanted to create a sense of intrigue and wonder, as well as points of retreat. I wanted a home where my kids could bring their friends so they were growing up and enjoying themselves under our roof, and this provided that as well.”

Built to last, the house includes a bedroom wing as well as a whole floor master bedroom featuring a spa ensuite, dressing room, balcony and adjoining nursery.

A beautiful central open-plan living and dining area has a wall of glass which peels back to connect the interior to the outdoor entertaining terrace.

“Everyone who visits comments on how large the home is but that it feels warm and welcoming,” Ms Grives said.

“The space feels compelling and inviting. That’s always been a consistent piece of feedback.”

The landscape, shared with wallabies, deer, cookatoos and eagles, is cherished by Ms Grives who admitted to spending most of her time outside in the ‘garden rooms’ which include a pond courtyard, orchard and Zen garden.

“The biggest things I’ll miss are the gardens, land and the sounds - the birds, the peace, the wind in the trees,” she said.

There’s a shed large enough to fit six cars, a smaller shed, two rainwater tanks and a regenerated creek at the bottom of the hill.

“This is a massive block of land that’s all usable, which is a big plus out here” Ms Grives said.

“We’ve had lots of parties and gatherings and get-togethers. We’re going to miss it.”

The Grives, who have decided to downsize, have listed their property for sale through Ray White New Farm | Spring Hill principal Matt Lancashire.

“This property is so close to the city and airport, just 30 minutes to both by car, yet you can land a helicopter here and few would hear it,” Mr Lancashire said.

“There’s so much space, including room for a tennis court or four, to live your dream lifestyle with your family and remain connected to reality. This is a very special opportunity.”
