The rental real estate market in Dubbo is among the tightest anywhere in the state of New South Wales, new figures have shown.

The March 2013 Real Estate Institute of New South Wales (REINSW) Vacancy Rate Survey revealed that the Orana region is home to the state's tightest rental market, with vacancy rates standing at 1.6 per cent.

While this figure actually represents a 0.5 per cent rise compared with February's data, it is still a tight squeeze on a statewide level, said REINSW Orana division chair Mark Searle.

He suggested that added incentives for investors and first home buyers could be a smart way to get around the tight rental market, which makes it difficult for local industries to grow.

Mr Searle said: "The ongoing rental shortage has implications for employment and business expansion in the area because new and existing workers can't find accommodation. It impacts on Orana’s economic growth."
