FEW properties in blue chip Brisbane can claim such a large prime flat landholding as the prestigious 117 Adelaide Street, East Clayfield.

Arrive at the double story five bedroom property known as Highgate via a private driveway to its 1712sqm north east facing parcel on one of Brisbane's best streets.

Designed by architect Richard Gailey in the 1920s, this classic home is a cherished family estate which has been tightly held for the past four decades.

Ray White New Farm duo Christine Rudolph and Matt Lancashire will take the property to auction on-site on July 6 at 1pm.

“This grand residence, offers a mix of formal and informal living spaces, with ornate original features such as a working fireplace, lead lighting, french doors, hardwood floors, pressed ceilings and hand cut crystal chandeliers,” Ms Rudolph said.

“This stately residence caters to the growing needs of a large family.”

Speaking on behalf of his sister and two brothers, Daniel Woolhouse of Woolloongabba said his parents Patricia and Stephen Woolhouse bought the immaculate property in 1983.

“The house would suit a large family and particularly someone who works from home," he said.

As a child growing up Highgate was like another world. The fact that we were so far from the street meant our parents didn’t need to worry for our safety. I remember when we first moved, there were no fences and we would roam from neighbour’s yard to yard without a worry,” Mr Woolhouse said.

“The additions Mum and Dad made added to the wonderland experience of living at Highgate.

“We would spend long days in the pool, had weekly BBQs with family and friends and backyard cricket was a daily event. The fact that Dad worked from home was fantastic and meant he was always around to be with us.

“We have fond memories of Christmas time at Highgate. Every year, as a family we would choose a full size pine tree and spend the day decorating it.

“Christmas was always a large celebration with extended family gathering from around the country to celebrate at our home.”

In more recent years, Mr Woolhouse said a growing brood of grandchildren have been able to enjoy Highgate too.

“We have fond memories of outdoor Easter egg hunts and harvesting fresh produce from our veggie patch.”

The open plan family sized kitchen overlooks the casual dining and living rooms adjoining the north facing wide veranda and overlooks the saltwater swimming pool, pergola and large level garden and lawn.

Further living areas include billiard room and attic/rumpus, which is perfect for teenagers. The house is close to some of Brisbane's best schools, parks, transport and only six kilometres away from the CBD.
