Australians are proud people and no matter where we live, we get behind our community and our country. So, if you're wondering how you can celebrate Australia Day this year with a bit of local flavour, here's a quick run down of the top celebrations.

Adelaide

Residents of South Australia's capital city know how to party. This year will see over 40,000 people enjoying a street parade, concert and fireworks as part of the Adelaide City Council's celebrations.

Australia Day in the City is held at Elder Park on King William Road and there are special parking rates at many UParks around the city on 26 January. The parade starts at 6 PM, followed by the concert around 7 PM and fireworks later in the evening.

Brisbane

With many Australia Day celebrations around the city, it can be hard work trying to get the most out of the day. If you decide you need to cool off for a bit, or let the kids blow off some steam, head down to the Healthstream Aquatic Centre.

A family friendly celebration with cricket on the big screen, barbecues and a 25 metre water slide - what more could you ask for? If this sounds like what you're after, head on down for Brisbane's biggest Australia Day pool party!

Canberra

Lake Burley Griffin is the spot you want to head for if you're planning on celebrating Australia day in Canberra. The Australia Day Fireworks Spectacular is a free event featuring entertainment, music and fireworks to delight the whole family.

Darwin

Australia Day in Darwin begins at 10 AM at the Darwin Entertainment Centre where a citizenship and flag raising ceremony is held by the local council. Australia Day awards are given for Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Event of the Year.

After the ceremony there will be a 21 gun salute at the Cenotaph.

Hobart

What could be more Australian than a day at the beach? Well, in celebration of Australia Day, A Day on the Beach beings together a host of sporting and community groups who put on a great range of entertainment on Kingston Beach.

Local music, fun sports and activities and a great barbecue mark an awesome day for Tasmanians. If your slice of Australian real estate is anywhere near Hobart or Kingston Beach, we suggest heading down to enjoy the festivities between 8 AM and 2 PM.

Melbourne

If you call the Victorian capital city home, there is a range of activities that could keep you busy on Australia Day. Whether you go all out and have a blast or stay home and relax, you'll probably want to end the day watching the Australia Day Fireworks.

Head on down to the New Quay Promenade in Docklands to watch the Melbourne skyline light up with colour.

Perth

If you're the proud owner of real estate in Perth and love getting involved with the local scene, you'll appreciate the Australia Day Skyworks on the banks of the Swan River. The City of Perth puts on a fantastic show and the council suggests that Langley Park will have the best views of the festivities, which will feature fireworks, water displays and laser shows.

Sydney

What could be more iconic than Australia Day at the Sydney Opera House? Well, with a spot of luck you could enter the draw to win tickets to amazing music events at this premium venue.

For the kids the Wiggles are on at 11 AM, but if that's not your cup of tea, there's a range of contemporary Australian music acts kicking off at 7 PM.

If your real estate in Sydney has a view of the Darling Harbour, you may decide to celebrate without leaving the comfort of your own home. If you do decide to wander down, there are activities starting at noon and running on into the evening.
