IT'S a genuine story of Australia’s ugly duckling evolving into Brisbane’s beautiful swan, as the house once dubbed the country’s worst has been replaced with a beautiful new-build at 50 Deighton Road, Dutton Park.

“My son and I were stood outside this completely unlivable shack, with all its collapsed ceilings and termite infestation, but all we could see was our vision of a beautiful family home in its place,” said house owner and designers Rina Zlatkin and Ryan Zlatkin.

“We lived in Cleveland and my oldest son of two was attending the university in Southbank and we were just completely sold by the location and the potential the site had.

50 Deighton Road before the incredible new-build.

“The atmosphere, the people, the buzz of the tourists around Southbank and only being a 15-minute walk from the city was incredibly appealing to us. We were also attracted by the excellent local school catchment.

“We spent hours and hours with the architect coming up with a Hamptons style home that had a family in mind, that felt comfortable, but also allowed for enough room for both privacy and social time.

“We designed it ourselves from scratch. We deliberately put the master bedroom on the other side to where our kids would be to give us that virtual barrier, but we also ensured the flow of the house was smooth, with cupboard space aplenty and lots of natural light.

“I’m originally from Melbourne so we wanted to create a home that’s stylish, yet complements the character of the street, offering warmth, coziness, style and quality.

“The Hamptons style home fit the bill perfectly as it blends the old with the new, being stylish, cozy and inviting. I believe we have designed the perfect home for a family to enjoy and be proud of, just like we are.

“We put blood, sweat and tears in to building something that makes us feel genuinely warm and happy on the inside. It was worth every minute we spent on it.

“But unfortunately, because of a change in our personal circumstances, we never got to live in this beautiful home.

“Our youngest son has now been accepted to a university in Melbourne so we’re on the relocation trail again.

“But I’ll always have fond memories of the journey we’ve been on together as a family, and I’ll have a special memory of what was meant to be my kitchen, and the gorgeous island bench that sits within it.

“It gives me great comfort that the home we designed will house a family and we hope it brings them great happiness.”

Ray White Stones Corner sales and market agent Gunther Behrendt said the transformation from ‘Australia’s worst home’ to the Hamptons-inspired character home was incredible.

“It’s been an amazing journey for the owners and what they’ve been able to create is something to be very proud of,” Mr Behrendt said.

“New houses are rarely available so close to the city, so this large family home within the Brisbane State High catchment is very exciting indeed.

“The owners have created a stunning five-bedroom home with plenty of room for the growing family.

“It comes as open-plan, with multiple living indoor and outdoor areas, luxurious kitchen with butler’s pantry, quality appliances and statement island bench.

“There’s also a parent’s retreat, all serviced by three bathrooms, media room and is completed by a landscaped backyard featuring a grassed area and in-ground pool.

“Situated in one of the best tree-lined, inner-city streets and just 2km* from the Brisbane CBD, the location is perfect if you’re seeking that inner-city lifestyle.”

The property is set to go under the hammer on-site on Saturday 30 March at 1pm.
