ANGLICARE SA has purchased a block of 16 units known as ‘Midway Apartments’ with a plan to establish community housing and emergency accommodation for those in need in Adelaide’s Kurralta Park.

Vendor Kym Matheson had spent nearly 25 years purchasing all 16 one-bedroom apartments and he said he was pleased they would be used to help those who need them most.

“I started with one apartment back in 1995 after a third was left to me by my mother. After buying out my two brothers, I decided short-term holiday rentals were the way to go,” Mr Matheson said.

“I ensured after I purchased each one that they were fully-renovated and offered everything you would need to stay for a short time – including electricity, gas, and Wi-Fi.

“They really were incredibly popular for 25 years with both Saudi students and contractors that were here from interstate.

“They ticked all the boxes being close to transport and right next to the Coles shopping centre.

“I decided to call them ‘Midway’ purely because they thread the triangle between city, beach, and the airport – you could almost say they were AirBnB – before AirBnB even existed.”

Ray White Glenelg I Plympton Principal Adam Keane – who sold the property with Sales Associate Nathan Viola – said it was rare for an entire block to come to market.

“There was so much interest throughout the campaign, simply because an asset like this only comes up once in a blue moon,” Mr Keane said.

“It was a pleasure working with Kym throughout the campaign, and we’re pleased we were able to achieve a price the property deserved, even with COVID-19 obstacles in place.

“AnglicareSA visited the asset a number of times and they really appreciated the standard of the renovations and how well-placed the apartments were to every essential amenity.”
