All I want for Christmas is… the best view in the Southern Tablelands

One of the last property auctions of the 2019 calendar year is scheduled for an English-style homestead, originally the home of the Southern Tablelands Hunt Club.

The owners are retiring in the new year and are determined to sell the property at 680 Gums Lane Yass, NSW on Saturday 14 December via rural specialist agent George Southwell of Ray White Rural Yass and Canberra.

‘Beckford’, named after Sir Peter Beckford the English father of modern fox hunting, has a strong history with horses and is currently the home of champion carriage driving horses competing across Australia and in the UK.

“The home lends itself to horse owners with its four large stables, tack room, wash bay, all weather arena, machinery shed, nine paddocks, two dams and a solar bore. The Capital Region has the highest number of horses per capita, after all,” Mr Southwell said.

There are numerous current riders who started their eventing career at Beckford,” Barry Topple said.

“We’ve been at Beckford for 20 wonderful years and will be very sad to leave but the time has come to downsize – our new property is just five acres! We’ve always been involved with horses and the Beckford Chicken Runs we ran for many years are still remembered by so many. We’ve travelled widely and are still to find comparable unrivalled views - many a time we’ve toasted them with a relaxing G&T. We’ll miss Beckford but hope the new owners enjoy it as much as we have,” Gail Bain said.
