Lester was transferred to Deniliquin in 1971 to manage an agricultural business operated by Grazcos Co-operative Limited and covered an extensive territory in the south western Riverina providing merchandise, wool, shearing, and ancillary services mainly to larger pastoral and grazing properties. In 1973 he was offered the opportunity to enter the real estate profession specialising in Residential and Commercial property, and in 1977, together with wife Carolyn established LM Wheatley & Associates Pty Ltd from a single room office in Cressy Street, not far from the present location. From that small beginning, and with only one single property to manage, the business developed to become Deniliquin’s leading Estate Agents and Auctioneers with a property management portfolio estimated at around $40 million. It would be hard to find a more experienced agent anywhere and both the business and local community are lucky to have someone of this calibre. Out of work Lester is busy on his farm, catching up with family and friends or getting away and exploring inland Australia.
